In December 2012, my daughter Danielle Sirmai tragically died after a short 5 and a half week battle with Pancreatic Cancer. She was only 33 years old. At the time I didn’t know anyone with this terrible disease, but very sadly in 2014, my brother-in-law Danny Wilheim also lost his battle with the same disease.

Unfortunately more and more people seem to be diagnosed with this fatal condition, while little is known about ways to combat it.

I would like to raise much needed funds to promote research into this silent killer, so that in the future, a diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer can spell “c-u-r-e” and further families will not have to suffer my family’s pain.

My fundraising challenge is to take part in Remember September,  whose sole benefactor is the Avner Pancreatic Cancer Foundation. They are the only foundation in Australia exclusively dedicated to Pancreatic Cancer. Their Vision, via investment decisions, is to - "To break through 40 years of no progress by doubling the number of people who survive Pancreatic Cancer by 2020". As a participant in this challenge, I will give up ALL liquids except for tap water for the entire month of September. I will be seeking donations from loved ones, friends and the community to raise much-needed funds for Pancreatic Cancer research.
